In 2013, upon graduating from veterinary school at UC Davis, Dr. Ostermann established the Shelter Medicine Advancement scholarship at UC Davis to provide financial assistance to veterinary students who are interested in and have shown a profound dedication to advancing the field of shelter medicine. Veterinary students, like Dr. Ostermann, incur a tremendous debt (often over $200,000) for veterinary school alone though the salaries they make are the lowest of all professions when compared to the amount of debt incurred. The average veterinary starting salary is around $60,000 per year.

Donating to the Shelter Medicine Advancement scholarship fund at UC Davis is a great way to demonstrate how important the field of shelter medicine is in the world today and support those students pursuing a career as a shelter veterinarian. This scholarship is awarded to a new student every year and could benefit from your help!
