An elderly dog receives an extreme, life-saving makeover!
Chester weighed just over a pound when he was brought to the San Jose Animal Care Center as a stray kitten. He was tiny and sweet with 3.5 legs instead of 4.
Whatever happened to the missing half of his left hind leg is a mystery. It is possible that something traumatic occurred, causing that part of his leg to break off. It is also possible that Chester was simply born with 1/2 of a leg.
Regardless of why Chester had 1/2 of a hind leg, he was unable to balance himself properly, typically trying to put down his hind leg when he walked. Thus, the shelter’s veterinary team anesthetized Chester to neuter him and amputate what was left of his left hind leg.
After surgery, Chester was more stable and more readily able to walk around. He recovered from his amputation quickly and found his forever home as a true tripod kitten.
